Transformation from Inflammation

Transformations

I have known DeNitra Davis for several years and became acquainted with her during an event where I was beginning to learn experientially the truth of the Mind/Body Connection. We dined together and she shared her recent Life & Health Journey as well as her delicious food and unusual Carnivore Philosophy. Though a bit incredulous, I launched my own “journey” to educate myself. DeNitra checked in on me like a Coach would on a new recruit! Today, I am all-the-better because of HER effect on ME! Through study & application (and Prayer), I have been able to lose and maintain a 25–30 pound weight loss! Ms. Davis has impacted my life as a Professional Christian Woman that is to be emulated.

Working with DeNitra was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to learn about metabolic health, and I quickly realized how much I didn’t know. One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of “letting insulin rest”. During a checkup my doctor informed me that my A1C was high, and he wanted to put me on metformin. The doctor continued to say that this medication would help me lose weight and he also stated that “people in Hollywood take it.” I was somewhat confused as to what people in Hollywood had to do with me, but I sat there and listened. He continued to say that this medication would get my A1C under control and I would not eat as much. The doctor never informed me of any side effects or how this medication would affect my body. He was very persistent that taking this medication was my only choice. I told him that I wanted to try to make some changes in my diet and lifestyle before taking any medication. Reluctantly, he told me that he would give me 3 months to make changes but if my number did not improve, I would have to start taking metformin.

I left the doctor somewhat shocked that the only option that I was provided was metformin. The doctor did not give any suggestions on what I should be eating, he never advised me to check my A1C from time to time, all he could offer was metformin. Thankfully I have a village around me with some knowledge about healthy lifestyles and food choices. I remember calling my husband and telling him about my experience and he was not surprised that the doctor only suggested metformin. When I got home, we sat down to discuss our eating habits and the changes that we would make. I also shared my numbers with a co-worker who has a wealth of knowledge about health. He shared some things with me, and he introduced me to his wife. I met with DeNitra, and I also attended a Brunch and Learn which provided me with TONS of helpful information. The information I learned at Brunch and Learn helped me to get a jump start on my healthy lifestyle.

My drink of choice used to be Pepsi, Starbucks Caramel Macchiato and Cherry Coke.…. full of sugar. I made a few changes and started drinking 2 Liters of water each day and when I do go to Starbucks, I order a blonde roast coffee with sugar free vanilla and heavy cream (Thanks, DeNitra! 😊)

Each day I track my steps and I strive to get more steps each day. I try not to eat after 7:00 p.m. and I get plenty of rest. I am happy to say that when I started this journey, I weighed 209 pounds (size 14) and today I weigh 182 pounds (size 10). My blood pressure is good, my A1C is not elevated, and I feel great. Not only did I make changes, but my entire household made changes. It helps that my village is also a few co-workers, and we hold each other accountable. The journey was not easy but with my village, it was worth it. I feel great and I encourage you to take small steps toward a better YOU because YOU are worthy!
